Empty Spaces in The Blue Mountains

Hi everyone,
This Interest Group has been set up as a catalyst to find artists interested in developing Empty Space initatives in the upper Blue Mountains. You can contact me Katie Cordes via my online site http://www.katiecordes.com - however it would be good to keep the general discussion within this online community - to support the ongoing Empty Space initiative.
Or if anyone has experience with empty spaces in the region it would be good to hear your thoughts and ideas and any advice you may have for other artists.

Hi Katie!
Good timing as I was about to chase up responses /feedback from a previous meeting I attended around March this year at Parramatta, organised by Parra council as part of the 'Renew Newcastle" project where interested artists added ther names on a list for further contact re spaces in the area. I have some prior experience with such spaces in Parra when David Borger was initially promoting the area as a new artshub. I was involved in a vacant shopfront space for a group gallery exhibit and later the development and opening of the Parrmatta Artist Studio. Lisa Anderson has interviewed me about my prior experience and it is to be added to this website.
I think there is a serious lack of spaces in the Mtns and Penrith areas as can be evidenced by the number of artists for instance,who attended the Parra meeting who were from the Mountains & Penrith areas, so please count me in with any group or re further contact re shared spaces in the BM. I have a few places in mind near me (in Faulconbridge). I have recently joined a group organised by an artist at Penrith but she travels to the city to exhbit for the same reason, so it doesn't solve the problem!

Thanks for the post - I have recieved a few enquries also through the Blue Mountains Artist Collective and am just formulating some plans before moving forward. Will definately count you in when I get around to something more concrete - You seem to have some experience in the challenges!

Katie - good on you for taking the initiative! Beyond publishing your group as front page news on the Empty Spaces section of the site, we will add a page called (something like) 'Connect in your local area' ... stay tuned.
